We meet at the office in the Central Beach car park 30 minutes before departure, then step aboard the Robberg Express for a beach launch and head for the Robberg Nature Reserve and Marine Protected Area. There you get into the water with a qualified divemaster for the ultimate wild animal encounter, in the seals' own environment and without altering their behaviour.
Billions of sardines spawn on the Agulhas Bank and are swept north along the east coast of South Africa in a cold current, setting off one of the most spectacular feeding frenzies in the sea. Plettenberg Bay is an international Hope Spot between two marine protected areas, and it shows: pods of dolphins herding bait fish into tight balls, and an array of sharks feasting on them.
Six ocean days following the sardine shoals from Chintsa, with dolphins, whales, sharks and gannets working the bait balls.
Our crew runs water safety for surfing events and film shoots, with boats, jet-skis and rescue sleds.
